#Choose the Trail – Critical Council vote

A comprehensive report outlining the development process for the Wagga Rail Trail is going before Wagga Wagga City Council on Monday 26th May, 2025.

Our Committee has been waiting three years for this report to be prepared and presented.

A vote by Councillors will finally determine if our trail will be built.

It is critically important for Councillors to understand the depth of community support for the Wagga Rail Trail.

We ask that you contact all Councillors and tell them how important this issue is to you, and to ask them to vote in favour of fully developing the Wagga Rail Trail, from Wagga to Ladysmith, AND to extend the Tumbarumba Rail Trail to Humula.

It is time that Wagga Wagga City Council listened to our community and actively supported the development of rail trails in our local area.

If you know a Councillor, please phone them and lobby for support. Personal contact is very powerful.

Dear Councillor [surname],

I live in [town] and want to see the Wagga Rail Trail go ahead. I hope I can count on your support of the proposal coming to the 26th May Council meeting.

Rail trails have been shown to create jobs, stimulate local economies, boost tourism, provide recreation opportunities that promote physical and social benefits, and to connect communities.

Wagga Wagga has made a great start with construction of the Active Travel Pathways, and with the success of the Tumbarumba to Rosewood Rail Trail, visitors are looking for complementary trails. Let’s give them a reason to stay and explore Wagga by bike!

I want to live in a progressive and sustainable city, one that allows me and my family to enjoy a healthy, safe and active lifestyle. I believe the Rail Trail is the missing infrastructure that would improve the livability of Wagga Wagga, connect and stimulate growth in our outlying villages, and create a lasting asset for future generations.

And I’m not alone – the Wagga Rail Trail has received overwhelming community support. There are so many individuals, families and community groups that want to see the initiative go ahead because they know approving the rail trail development would definitely make the Wagga region a better place to live.

I hope you will listen to our community on this matter and vote to support this development at the Council meeting on 26th May.

Sincerely,
[Name, Town]

Cristy Houghton
